In April we will be working on the character lesson: DETERMINATION.
Determination is a positive character trait. A person with determination is someone who sets goals and does not give up. If there is something that this person wants to do, he or she will not give up easily or be distracted by something else. It is important that we teach our children how to have determination and they will reap the rewards by accomplishing worthwhile goals.
Here is a guideline regarding children and determination based on age:
-
With children ages 3 and 4: they are starting to learn many new skills. Teach them how to improve upon their choices by not giving up easily.
-
With children ages 5 and 6: they are learning how to make positive choices. Teach them how to make choices that require determination.
-
With children ages 7 to 9: they are learning how to set goals. Teach them how to set high goals that require determination.
-
With children ages 10 and up: they are learning how to evaluate their progress towards goals. Teach them how to identify their limitations and how to improve upon them.
