Wow !!! What a way to spend a Tuesday night !!!
Thank you so much to former Olympic Athlete and TeamGB Rower Gillian Lindsay for visiting Storm and for allowing all our students to hold your Olympic Silver Medal from the Sydney Olympic Games.
The feedback from student and parents has been fantastic. What a truly inspirational and awesome human being Gillian is.
Gillian shared her journey from school PE lessons in Paisley to the Olympic Podium in Australia.
In 1997, she and partner Miriam Batten took silver in the double sculls at the 1997 World Rowing Championships.
The following year, they won gold at the 1998 World Rowing Championships in Cologne.
Gillian then won silver at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, in the woman’s quadruple sculls alongside crewmates Guin Batten, Katherine Grainger and Miriam Batten.
At the time of her retirement from competition, Gillian was Britain’s most successful woman sculler of all time.
We asked Gillian to present at Storm as one of our guest speakers as we are first and foremost a Leadership & Lifeskills Academy and we want our students to meet individuals who can inspire them to pursue their own ambitions and to believe that they too can achieve anything they set their mind to if they have a plan and take action.
This summer Gillian has launched her brand new coaching camps. You can find out more at www.glcamps.co.uk or on Instagram at gl_rowing_camps
Gillian’s camps do not require rowing experience and all age groups are welcome. The camps are a unique 5 day rowing experience in either Portugal or Italy.
Once again, a big thank you to Gillian for finding time in her busy schedule to visit Storm to present to our students.
If you’d like to watch the race in Sydney it is on YouTube here:
