- All those interacting within the academy are expected to be positive, enthusiastic and conscious of their role in helping to create an atmosphere of fun and excitement, engendering a ‘can do’ spirit in all.
- Students are expected to train with commitment, control and discipline at all times
- Staff and instructors should be treated with respect by all, at all times.
- Students and their parents should be treated with respect by all, at all times.
- Equipment used and worn in the academy will be subject to inspection and approval by the chief instructor before use.
- Belts should be treated with respect and worn with uniform at all times. If a student loses a belt it must be replaced immediately.
- All students must wear the academy branded clothing in every class (including official belt) – failure to adhere to this may result in the student not being able to train
- Cleanliness is a pre-requisite for training in our academy. Personal hygiene standards are expected to be high and uniforms are also expected to be clean at the beginning of all classes. Fingernails must be kept short.
- Ideally no jewellery should be worn in class by any student. Small earrings and engagement/wedding rings are permitted if they pose no danger to a training partner. The biggest risk of injury comes from bracelets worn on the wrist — therefore no bracelets may be worn, for any reason during training.
- Children should practice their martial arts at home to help with their personal development. This home practice should be supervised by their parent or guardian.
- The Self-defence syllabus taught at Storm for children is for keeping them safe in dangerous situations — it’s not for fighting at school. Our number one rule for Self Defence is to walk away and report the situation immediately to your teacher and parents/guardians. Fighting at school may lead to the student being removed from Storm.
- The self defence syllabus taught at Storm for adults is designed to keep you safe — not to win fights. In everyday situations, the smartest option is always to walk away if you can. If you have no other option but to defend yourself, you must only use reasonable force to protect yourself or others, and stop as soon as the danger has passed.
